ABOUT KIM FEINSTEIN PH.D.

Making the decision to start therapy is a difficult one and finding the right therapist is key. I encourage all potential patients to take the time to find the right match; someone with whom they feel comfortable and with whom they can envision developing a trusting and safe relationship. While most people seek treatment due to symptoms or concerns that are impairing their lives in some way, my philosophy is that everyone can benefit from therapy much as we can from eating healthy or exercising. It offers an opportunity to learn more about oneself and optimize one’s emotional and physical health.

While I was trained with a psychodynamic (insight-oriented) approach to therapy, I use a variety of techniques and perspectives to offer my patients what they need to achieve growth. I employ cognitive-behavioral strategies, which target exploring one’s negative thoughts and how they influence actions, as well as other more directive and supportive techniques. Most significant, however, is my feeling that every person is unique and responds to therapy differently so I cater my approach to what I believe will be in the best service to my patients.
